Honduras & Nicaragua Trip with Rice Bowls

My wife and I just returned from an amazing week in Honduras and Nicaragua. Each year we partner with Rice Bowls for our Ugmonk Gives Back charity drive to help feed kids around the world. We had the unique opportunity to travel to Central America to meet some of the kids that we support. It's great to see photos but meeting them in person was really special! These kids are not only being taken care of with nutritious meals and a nice place to live, but are also being taught many valuable life skills. They are full of energy and a ton of fun to be around. I got to show them some juggling tricks, play soccer, help with an art project, and spend time just hanging out with them. When we arrived in Honduras we also found out that they had an onsite dental clinic which was a neat surprise since my wife is a dental hygienist. She was able to jump right in and clean some of the kids teeth. It's always cool to see how things that like fall into place. Honduras and Nicaragua are beautiful countries. The scenery, the food, the coffee were all incredible, but driving through the villages was really eye-opening. The reality is that a large percentage of the population doesn't have access to most of the things that we take for granted in the US: clean water, food, medicine, and a sturdy roof over their head. It's easy to get stuck worrying about our own "first world" problems, but I encourage you get out of your comfort zone and help those in need. It doesn't have to be traveling to a third world country or giving away your life savings, but even a little bit can go a long way. This trip was an incredible experience and hard to put into words. I'm looking forward to seeing how much we can raise for this years charity drive in a couple months.
